Who leads the church?

First Presbyterian Church has people of varied ages and interests participating in the life of the congregation. Our leaders are capable of preaching, teaching, creating music, pastoral care, leading meetings and doing mission and ministry.

Session

The primary leadership at First Pres is from the Session (elected governing body of ordained Elders) with the support of the Pastor, who is the Moderator (chair person).

Deacons

Our Deacons are second to none! Prayer requests flow in and the Deacons follow with tangible care in the form of food and cards.

Meet the Staff

What type of church?

We are a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and as such we enjoy the freedom of our local congregation and the support of the larger church.  See about the breadth and depth of our beliefs by clicking PCUSA below.   We are a people who come from many different places and backgrounds.  Individually and collectively, we believe that Jesus is our Lord and Savior.  Much beyond that, we leave up to the Lord.

We are a member of the Presbytery of Milwaukee, a gathering of churches (represented by their Pastors and Elders) who act in the stead of a bishop.

What's the history?

First Presbyterian Church of Clinton was created in 1919 by the merger of First Congregational Church of Clinton, est. 1858, and the Clinton Methodist Church. The building, owned by the Congregational Church, became the First United Presbyterian Church, and its manse became the home of the Pastor who served the 149 members of the combined congregations. The original building was enlarged by a necessary addition in the 1980’s. Our building has been a hub of the community for generations of faithful servants.
